Take Me to the Water

The inaugural cover, Take Me to the Water, turns the narrative on Black women’s displacement from corporate America inside out. Amid a period of profound disruption in the American labor market, Black women professionals are not only experiencing record job loss, in Trump's America, Black women are baring deliberate economic disenfranchisement, and stoppage of legacy.

But Black women know how to walk on water.

Illustrated by Latorree Howard, the cover depicts a woman bravely walking away from the dark-and-gray world of city skyscrapers  toward a world of sovereignty as her former colleagues look on in wonder—fitting for The Knowing's brand tag: news, culture and sovereignty.

The story repositions Black women outside the widely reported victim narrative, telling the stories of former corporate suits who were pushed out to take flight. Penned by Thomas, Take Me to the Water will appear in The Knowing’s inaugural issue delivering Saturday, August 29 7 AM ET.
